construction Worker

In the Summer of '09 I worked in Roofing with a company named All 4 Construction run by my Aunt Angie and a family friend named Mel. My Aunt Angie was very relaxed, told me to do very little and i would spend most of the time sitting around. However, when i worked with Mel, I felt like an ignorant child playing with a fake vacuum. I had to learn how to sweep, I had to learn how to organize, and I had to learn how to use the equipment.

Sweeping was the hardest thing I learned. Spotless was the description I had to sweep towards. I would find myself sweeping for at least thirty minutes, tell Mel, and he would walk over and still find some random specks of dirt that i didn't pick up. Of course, he would make me start all over again if he found anything.

Organizing wasn't as bad as I first thought it would be. Mel caught me lounging around one day and asked why told me to get up. He walked me over to his pile of equipment which had been consolidated to one side of the building we were working on. He told me to organize it. At first glance, everything looked fine, I probably would have to shut a few boxes and move a few ladders over, but nothing to serious. After I was done i called over Mel and he started to dissect everything. He opened boxes to see what was inside them; he took out wrenches and screwdrivers and caulking guns and laid them all on the floor and told me to redo it.

I had a great time working for Mel and Angie. Even though at the beginning I felt like an idiot, in the end I felt as if I had achieved a great goal of mine. Thanks to those two, the Summer of '09 would be my favorite summer of my high school career. The skills that I have learned from this internship will go with me no matter what I do.
